A little bit different of a blog post than normal, but I thought it would be great to change it up and create a blog about my experience of going for a professional facial and my thoughts & review on it. I recently treated my best friend for her birthday to professional facial and I decided that I would get one too, that way we could share the experience together and have a fun time for her special day!
After much research on different spas & treatments around the Niagara area, I decided on the Americana Resort - Senses Spa. I decided on the grounding facial for both my friend and I. It was reasonably priced compared to some other spas in the area, but still luxurious enough that I felt I would be getting a professional experience. I decided on the grounding facial, which essentially is a customized facial with hot stones incorporated for added relaxation. I had never received a hot stone facial either, so I thought this was the best way to go! The facial was $120 for an 85-minute session, but personally I thought it was a great deal.
The actual treatment was very relaxing and my esthetician was very confident in her techniques. She knew what she was doing and I felt very comfortable with her! I really felt I was getting a good experience and I felt my skin was being treated with care and professionalism. She allowed me to relax and just enjoy treating myself. The only disappointment I had with my esthetician is I wished she were a little more vocal about what she was using on my skin. I understand that at the same time a lot of people may not enjoy being spoken too as it could disrupt their relaxation, but I would have appreciated knowing what was being used each step throughout the service. But, with that being my only complaint with my esthetician I would say she did an amazing job and I would definitely request her again for the next service I book!
Our glowing skin after our facials!
With the overall service, I found the experience was great. It was nice to sit in the lounge before & after the service to unwind. It was a good feeling not being pressured to leave, and that my friend and I could take our time to just hangout and catch up before we had to go on with our day! We were given refreshments after our service as well, which was a beautiful touch. The only downside I had with my overall experience was the length of my treatment. I was disappointed that my treatment didn’t last the promised 85 minutes. The entire service lasted about an hour, which ended up feeling more than enough, but I would have enjoyed those extra 25 promised minutes in the treatment room!
But, now for the real review! How is my skin? Really this to me is the most crucial part as to whether a facial is worth it or not. Prior to the facial I noticed my skin was breaking out on my forehead and I was developing more black heads than usual. My skin was just overall congested and just needed some extra help. During the treatment I could really feel my esthetician taking care of my skin and she was really focused on doing her job right. She spent a great deal of time extracting my blackheads and she took pride in doing a good job. Once leaving the facial and being able to look into a mirror my skin was AMAZING. It was seriously GLOWING and it felt amazing. I was so impressed with the results. I couldn’t believe that much change could come from one session. She was a miracle worker.
This is a photo of my skin about 2 hours after my facial! I didn't edit this photo in any way and it was taken with my SONY a5000 to show the details of my skin.
So at the end of all of this I would rate my experience an 8/10. At the end of the day my skin is glowing and I feel refreshed and confident in my complexion. It would have been nice to have that extended time, but it didn’t ruin my experience. I would definitely rebook again and I’m already looking into what service I want to indulge in next at Senses Spa!
Have any services you want me to try our & review? I’d be happy to test them out for you ;)
Stay happy & healthy
Here it comes! My review on the Lancome Galatée Confort cleanser & toner is ready for all you beauty lovers! I purchased these products probably a little over 2 months ago and I think it has been a sufficient amount of time to really understand how I feel about these products and how they work on my skin.
LANCOME Galatée Confort – Comforting Milky Cream Cleanser for Dry Skin
This cleanser is a dual acting cleanser, as it claims to cleanse & hydrate the skin while removing makeup at the same time. It’s a milky/lotion consistency, meaning that it is extremely gentle on the skin, while being aggressive enough at the same time to scoop out impurities. Also, it smells like babies – in a good way!
When I first purchased this product I was using it both am and pm, daily. It was doing all that it claimed and I was really loving it! As one who struggles with dry skin, this product really conditioned my skin back to a healthy state and I actually felt for once that my skin wasn’t dry! As I continued to use this cleanser I found my skin getting more & more hydrated, but almost to the point where it was over-hydrated. I found my skin was beginning to produce an excessive amount of oil, something that is pretty unheard of for me. Who would have thought I could actually find a product that worked so well that it would make my skin change to the opposite end of the spectrum?
As much as I enjoyed having skin free from dryness, the oil was not necessarily something I wanted either. I decided to just use the cleanser at night when I needed to remove makeup and I replaced my morning routine with a more purifying cleanser. This combination was just what I needed, and it's what I continue to use right now! So, the verdict? It’s a great cleanser for the removal of makeup, but should only be used for short periods of time.
LANCOME Galatée Confort – Comforting Rehydrating Toner for Dry Skin
This toner is very similar to the comforting milky cleanser, but even more hydrating, if that’s even possible! It’s the perfect toner for extremely dry skin, and it soothes at the same time. I found it really helped to reduce redness and calm down any irritations I may have had. I just found it wasn’t for me. I was interested in finding a toner that I could use every day, both morning and night. This toner instantly hydrates the skin, so it can be a bit too much for prolonged use.
I like to use it for days where I really need a little bit of comfort, but for the most part I reach for other things! I did however purchase one for my freelance kit. It’s really important for me to work on clients with hydrated and fresh skin. This toner is perfect for my clients since I know it’s going to instantly hydrate their skin and make it moisturized for better makeup application! Since it’s a one-time use for them it gives great results and I love how foundation has been working with it.
Well, there you have it! Overall, it’s a great product line for those with extremely dehydrated and alipidic skin, but overuse isn’t necessarily a good thing. I would advise those to use it at times when really needed and then switch back to something less intense until it is needed again!
Any products you want me to review in the future? Let me know!
Stay Happy & Healthy – Liss !
Okay, so this purchase was definitely persuaded by Instagram marketing tactics. It seemed like for months all I was seeing on my Instagram feed were videos of beauty content creators having these “Unicorn Drops” pour down their face and result in supple & glowing skin! I promised myself I wouldn’t cave into the hype, but one thing led to another and as I was in the check out line at Sephora I threw it into my basket the last second. They always get you right at the end!
Was it worth it? Yes and no. The Farsali Unicorn Essence is marketed as a skin perfecting serum and a makeup primer. So it’s a 2-in-1 makeup and skincare product. With the price being quite steep I convinced myself that it was worth the money since I was kind of getting 2 products in one. So, I guess it’s reasonable in that sense. The only thing is, after testing it out, I don’t think I’m comfortable promoting this as a skin care item. Even though I didn’t necessarily see it damage or irritate my skin in anyway, the scent is where it gets me. It smells exactly like cotton candy, and that’s NOT an understatement. With a scent that potent of candy I can only imagine the synthetic chemicals that went into it. It’s strange because the ingredients list doesn’t seem very suspicious being filled with multiple berry extracts, but the vast amount of colour dyes in it just doesn’t sit great with me! That’s not to say that these ingredients are harmful in anyway, but definitely not a top of the line skin care ingredient.
As for a makeup product, I feel a lot more comfortable using this product as a makeup primer that settles on top of my moisturizer or mixed in with my foundation. Since I’m avoiding smothering my face in it at night before I go to bed, I have fun incorporating it into my makeup routine! I really do find that it hydrates my skin and makes it nice and glowy. It creates a really fresh base for makeup application and I really like the results!
So, this product can go both ways. For a makeup product – absolutely! Definitely try it out and have fun with it if you’re looking to treat yourself. But, if you’re looking for something to help with your skin and improve your skincare routine there are certainly better options. I feel like I’m being a bit of a “Negative Nancy” but I want to be as honest as possible to give those who commit time to reading my blogs accurate opinions and information!
Thanks for reading! Stay happy & healthy,
I feel lately I’ve been bombarding you guys with posts on hair care! I hope that interests you, because I know I appreciate as much information as I can get on keeping my hair healthy & strong. Some may be thinking, “if her last hair care post raved about how much she loved the Ouai Shampoo & Conditioner, why isn’t she still using that?” Well my friends, this is a little thing I like to call product addiction, and I need an intervention. I love trying the next best thing, and that’s what happened here.
I wanted to try out another shampoo & conditioner that was hydrating for my brittle & dry hair (although it is much improved in the past few months). I was recommended Dry Bar “Sake Bomb” by my friend at Sephora. She told me I would love it because its great for blondes with damaged hair and it really hydrates and repairs. I told her my struggle with my hair being too soft right after I wash it, and how I need to wait a few days for it to get dirty before I can do anything to it. She told me that this is perfect because it coats the hair with a pearl finish, not only leaving a shine, but also a little bit of thickness.
When first using the shampoo I realized that a little really does go a long way. It lathered up right away; something I’m not use to with high-end luxury shampoos. I genuinely felt it cleaned my hair and really got up in there. Once I rinsed it out it did leave my hair really knotted though, almost to the point where I couldn’t get my fingers through it. I have noticed this happening with other brands as well, and it usually fixes once I use the conditioner.
So that’s exactly what happened. Once I tried out the conditioner, all the tangles went away and my hair felt so soft and satin-like when having the water run over my head. Ahh, such a good feeling! The conditioner really moisturized my hair, so much so that I felt I didn’t need to follow up with a hair mask (even though I did anyways).
Now to put it to the real test, I wanted to know if this “pearlized finish” was going to thicken my hair and make it more manageable while being clean! The Verdict: Meh; so, so. Definitely a lot more thicker than what I usually have to work with, but didn’t completely fix the problem. Beggars cant be choosers, I guess. That’s not to say I’m not happy with the results. I’ll continue using its because it’s the best thing I’ve come across so far, but I’m still searching. So picky, I know. I will say that letting it air-dry improved the thickness & texture compared to blow-drying it out.
Well, people, there you have it. Not much more to say, it is just shampoo and conditioner. But, healthy hair is good hair. Until the next post…
Stay happy & healthy!
Hey Guys! Hope everyone is loving this great, warm weather as much as I am. With spring in the air I am overcome with an urge for a fresh start! I usually take this feeling into investing in new products for my skin to create a renewed complexion for this new season. New products usually mean that I’ve used up some of my old products, and I thought this would be the perfect chance to do an empties post. “Empties Posts” are one of my favourite things to watch on YouTube and read on blogger sites, because it gives me insight into what others are using and if it was worth it! I’ll be discussing 4 luxury products that I’ve recently used up and give you some detailed information whether this would be a great addition for your spring time skin care!
1.Refining & Invigorating Intense Lotion
$61 – A combination of Goji Berry & Lemon Balm, which helps to refine texture and give a healthy-looking glow and renewed bounce.
So, In other words – this is a toner. I went to Sephora on the hunt for a toner that would help to minimize texture on my skin and control the small bumps that I struggle with. When speaking with my Sales Consultant, she told me that this toner is really underrated and more people should try it out because it really refines texture on the face. She was right. I would say that within about 2 weeks but skin texture disappeared. My skin was supple and bouncy and I was truly amazed. Unfortunately, about 5 days after I used this all up I started to see the texture on my skin coming back. This showed me that this product really does work amazingly, but it’s not a long-term fix. It does the job while it’s applied, but doesn’t correct for the long-term. This is unfortunate, but doesn’t necessarily mean I wouldn’t use it again. It’s good for a quick fix when I need it, and I’ll definitely repurchase to have in my collection for that reason, but I am still on the hunt for my texture correcting Holy Grail toner! Any suggestions?
2. Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate
$56 (30ml) – A replenishing elixir of pure essential oils and distilled botanicals to visibly restore the appearance of skin by morning
Out of the whole empties post, I think this product is my absolute favourite. Since I struggle with dry, alipidic skin, I’m always looking for facial oils to slather all over my face. The oilier the better, I can never seem to get enough. I apply this oil at night and results are seen the next morning. A clear complexion is definitely noticeable as well as an even surface. I will be purchasing this again! The only downside to this is that it is not a product to use during the daytime. It is a little too heavy to wear under makeup, so I do use other products during the day for that reason. Since only a few drops are needed, it does last a pretty long time, so the price is worth it!
3. Caudalie Vinoperfect – Radiance Serum
$85 (30ml) – A milky, lightweight serum designed to even the skin tone for a brighter complexion
If you’ve read my previous post on “Facial Oils vs. Facial Serums” you would know that I have an obsession with the Caudalie Anti-Wrinkle Defense Serum. This is a product that I have purchased over and over again. It gives my skin a beautiful glow and makes it feel plump & hydrated. I’m under the impression that Sephora doesn’t sell it anymore, so when I went to repurchase it (again) I had to settle for the next closest thing. I was told that the Vinoperfect does everything that the Age Defense does, plus it heals the skin from UV ray damage. As much as this serum did hydrate my skin, I think it was a bold statement to say it’s the same as the Age Defense. Don’t get me wrong, I liked it, but I just didn’t love it. It just didn’t give me the same feeling and glow that I felt the Age Defense did! It didn’t hurt my skin, but it wasn’t something that I would repurchase over and over again like I had been doing. Good for hydration, but I didn’t see the radiance it claimed.
4. The Body Shop – Oils of Life Intensely Revitalizing Sleeping Cream
$44 (80 ml) – A nighttime cream to deeply nourish, visibly revitalize and intensely firm while you sleep
Back when I was going to school in Toronto, I took a part time job as a makeup artist and sales consultant at The Body Shop. A couple days a week playing with makeup & skin care wasn’t too bad, and did I mention we were given gratis? Every time a new line launched, the employees were given a product from the line to try out. The O.O.L (oils of life) sleeping cream was one of them. This was a luxury line added to The Body Shop that I was super excited to try. I’m very picky about my skin care, but the ingredients list seemed pretty impressive. I tested this product out for a couple weeks and it did not like my skin. I think my face was a little too sensitive for it, and it slightly burned every time I put it on. It took me a little while to figure out this was causing the burning, and I was disappointed when I realized this product was the cause. Me being the crazy person that I am, I wanted to find a way to make this work for me. Since this cream was really heavy & intense I figured that my neck & décolleté could handle it better. It did work much better on this area. I didn’t see a huge difference as I don’t struggle with the aging effects on my neck & décolleté, but it felt good to pamper myself. But, overall I was disappointed with this product. I wish I could have gotten the full-intended use out of it, but I think my skin was just too sensitive.
5. Manly Indulgence – Sea Salt & Ginger Soy Blend Candle
$20 (160z) - Fragrance notes of sea salt, ginger, peppercorn and vetiver
Okay, wait one more. I know this isn’t a skin care product, but my obsession with burning candles is just as intense. If you know me, you know that I always have a candle burning. Whether I’m putting on my makeup, doing morning yoga, or just completing homework, I always have to set the mood with a candle. Okay, maybe that was a little much. Recently, my friends spoiled me with gifts for my birthday, and my bestie, Dilara (who has an amazing food blog on Instagram you need to check out (@sprinkleofdil), gave me the most amazing candle! She knows me well, and knows that everything in my room has to match and it has to be white. Clean & tidy is kind of my thing… if that is a thing. Anyways, the white packaging with wood lid had me sold and the delicious scent was just a bonus.
This candle is more of a mature and musky scent, something way different than the vanilla & cookie candles that I’m usually drawn towards. I absolutely love it. It’s very calming, but invigorating at the same the same time. Not to mention, it’s a wood-wick candle, which means it gives off a subtle flickering noise, which is actually quick relaxing. My boyfriend and I have been trying to get into meditation, and the flickering noise keeps me focused on my practice. Who knew someone could talk so much a candle? But definitely worth the buy!
So, there you have it! My first ever empties post! I hope those reading found this as interesting as I find posts like these! Let me know of any products that you have used up and if I should check them out! Hopefully Empties Post Vol. 2 isn’t too far away!
If you’re like me, you are lacking in the hair department in comparison to your makeup and skin care skills. That’s okay, don’t feel bad – nothing is worse than my damaged blonde mane that has somehow gotten shorter throughout my years of “growing it out”.
Need I say more? The title says it all. But, ill tell you more anyways.
Can I call myself a #OUAI girl yet? Maybe not quite, but I am definitely head over heels for this skyrocketing brand.
Being an overly excessive hoarder of beauty products, it’s always a challenge to narrow it down to my ride or die, can’t live with out, all time favourites. I’m constantly trying out new things, falling in love with new techniques, and to be quite honest I get bored of using the same thing very quickly.
