If you’re like me, you are lacking in the hair department in comparison to your makeup and skin care skills. That’s okay, don’t feel bad – nothing is worse than my damaged blonde mane that has somehow gotten shorter throughout my years of “growing it out”.
Since it is a goal of mine to grow my hair out and get it back to the days when bobby pins weren’t needed to keep the short pieces in place, I do invest in hair care products. One of my favourite products to dip into is a hair mask, and for about the past 6 months, Pureology Hair Masques are what has been keeping me quite content.
I was first recommended Pureology Hydra Whip by my hairdresser who has been fighting the battle of breakage with me for the past little while. She explained to me that my hair was extremely dried out and needed a little TLC. Once she told me it was $50 for the jar I was a little hesitant, but flashbacks of me crying in the bathroom because my hair looked like an electrocuted rat lead me to pull out my credit card
Best $50 ever spent. This purple packaged product is now one of my all time faves, which I’m sure I will repurchase over and over again. Yes, already I have verified that statement. It has a creamy but fluffy formula and it smells like fruity candy. I was instructed to use it 1-2 times a week after I rinse the conditioner out of my hair, and leave it in for 3-5 minutes. I more so use it every single time I wash my hair and I keep it in for as long as I possibly can. Sometimes I even sleep with it in and rinse it out in the morning. This is probably why I run out of it so fast…oops!
The best part of this mask is when I rinse it out of my hair. My hair INSTANTLY feels softer and it makes me feel so luxurious. Even once I’m out of the shower and my hair has been blow-dried, it’s still so soft that I can’t even keep it in a ponytail without it slipping out. Trust me, that’s a good thing when you’re used to your hair breaking off at the sight of a hair elastic.
Since I had repurchased this mask a few times, I thought I should try something new. While I was at Ulta Beauty during a mother-daughter shopping trip in the states I saw that there was a sister product to this now favourite of mine. Pureology Strength Cure claimed to strengthen damaged hair that has been damaged from colouring. The blue packaging was so enticing (yes, I’m a sucker for packaging) that I decided to go for it.
Once I got home and jumped in the shower I decided to put it to the test and, well, let’s just say that the scent isn’t as pleasant as the beloved Hydra Whip. I continued anyway, hoping that this would give me the strength to use my hair as a deadly weapon. A rinse and a blow-dry later and…. NOTHING. No wow-factor, no instant love at first sight, no nothing. I was not impressed. I continued to use it for about a month and I could see my hair crying out for the Hydra Whip.
So, this product didn’t exactly hurt my hair, but it didn’t do anything for it either. I switched back to my Hydra Whip, and I’ve passed the Strength Cure to my boyfriend who likes pampering his hair more than you’d think.
Final Verdict: Pureology’s Hydra Whip will seriously change your life but you’ll probably be able to live without the Strength Cure. Let me know if there are any products you would like me to review, I always love testing out anything that adds a little something to my hair!
